I lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota for 11 years from 1972 to 1983, and I was surprised and delighted to find such a community of “live and let live.”  Coming from the east, I thought we had the liberal market cornered.   But Minnesota is home to the co-op movement and progressive populist politics–created by no-nonsense people with a lot of common sense.  Just one of the many reasons why Garrison Keillor has so much rich material to work with!

Anyway, David Carr’s article about politics in Minnesota is a good read–this is a place where 77.8% of the people vote!  Just think:  Hubert H. Humphrey, Eugene J. McCarthy, Paul Wellstone, Jesse Ventura, Keith Ellison, Rudy Perpich, Al Franken.  Read on…
