I have a confession to make…
I love devotional music, specifically Sanskrit and Sikh chants, and this past Thursday I went with a friend to New York to hear and chant with Snatam Kaur and Guruganesha Singh. It was two hours of bliss, alternating between high-energy chanting and heart chanting—from dancing in my seat to feeling at peace and at one with all beings. This clip is from her “Live in Concert” DVD featuring Manish Vyas on tabla and Ram Dass on keyboard and clarinet (no, not that Ram Dass!) Be sure to turn up the volume! And what exactly is a shabad?
“Shabads are sacred combinations of sounds that when recited bring a state of ecstasy, healing, and grace…When you listen to and/or recite this Shabad, there is a sound current that has a subtle but profound effect on all levels of your being. This sound current travels through every cell of the body and adjusts your inner vibratory frequency to a happier, healthier, holier state. This has been described as a state of grace, the state of the Golden Buddha, and by many other terms in many spiritual traditions.”
